ABOUT ART BY DMCG

 

Denise McGoldrick (DMcG) is an acrylic painter based in Depoe Bay, Oregon and Boise, Idaho. Her works are characterized by smooth brush strokes and the use of vivid colors  that infuse her work with energy. Realistic views are painted to evoke an emotional reactions to the beauty of the natural world. Most of those image choices are inspired by places in the Pacific Northwest.

Her whimsical artwork aims to evoke feelings of wonder and nostalgia, reminding both children and adults of the power of imagination and the joy of experiencing the world through a bright, imaginative lens. In my world, dragons gather, libraries appear in unexpected places, animals read, characters come to life and atlases provide both inspiration and a magical backdrop for literary works. My themes often combine two great elements of our world - our love for art and our love for the written word. The realistic style of my subjects is juxtaposed against fantastical, imaginative settings, inviting viewers into both familiar and extraordinary worlds. By working with acrylics, I capture the immediacy of the medium and use bold, saturated colors to convey a vibrant energy, reminiscent of the creativity seen in children's artwork.

 

The artist, new to selling and displaying her art in 2021, has displayed work at several juried shows at local galleries in the Boise area including the annual Opus 2023, 2024 and 2025 shows at the Water's Edge Gallery, the Treasure Chest Gallery, the Nampa Civic Center, and the Meridian Civic Center. A solo display of her land and seascape art was shown at the Pacific Artist's Gallery in Lincoln City, Oregon in 2024. A solo show of her whimsical works was displayed for a month at the Meridian Library in December 2024-2025 and the Pacific Artist's Gallery in 2026.

Denise's passion for painting encompasses every aspect, from seeking inspiration and honing her skills to the joyful act of bringing images to canvas. After years of dedicated practice and inspiration gathering, Denise now shows her work at the Salishan Artisan Market and is excited to share her art with a wider audience via this website.
